A dynamic lifestyle can lead to what are known as dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are most commonly caused by the muscles of your facial expression. They then disappear when you relax.
In times of tension and stress we tend to exercise these muscles much more. This leads to terrible effects on our skin and can result in the development of long lasting lines and wrinkles. But do not worry, there is a way to sort the development; Injections help these muscles to relax and diminish; leaving you with smoother skin and a less stressed more serene appearance. Areas on the face that is treated by botox are defined as one of the following, the Glabella, the Frontals muscle or the Crow's feet. You should allow thirty minutes for the initial consultation and treatment - with follow up treatments taking up to fifteen minutes. All consultations, treatments and after care information is provided by our fully qualified resident doctor
Facial expressions occur when the brain sends a signal to muscle tissue. Wrinkle relaxing treatment blocks impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles that are related to expression lines. This relaxes, or puts the muscle into “hibernation” for around three to four months leaving the overlying skin looking smooth and less wrinkled.
Botox wrinkle relaxing treatment works only on the specific muscles injected leaving surrounding muscles to function as usual, so that your face is not expressionless. It can be used to soften lines and wrinkles around the forehead, eyes, lips, chin and neck. The process works by injecting small amounts of botox, using a disposable syringe, into the muscles that cause the skin to crease and furrow. Because a very fine needle is used, most clients find that there is only mild and temporary discomfort. The entire procedure usually takes no longer than a few minutes.
Botox was first used as a wrinkle treatment by a Canadian Dermatologist in 1987. Since then it has become the number one aesthetic procedure in many countries around the world. The product received a license for cosmetic use in The United States of America in 2002, and in 2006 has gained approval for cosmetic use in the United Kingdom. In the United States alone, a survey carried out by the American Academy of Plastic Surgeons estimated that there were over four million wrinkle relaxing procedures in 2008.
Side effects of this treatment are rare, but can include some tenderness or bruising at the site of injection. In less than one percent of people treated with wrinkle relaxing injections can cause weakness in muscles near to the site of injection resulting in a slight and temporary droop of the eyelid or eyebrow.
